No cycling today. Instead we walked. It was a cold, windy day. The wind was still strong so our walk to Duncansby Head was exhilarating. The coastal scenery at the Head is spectacular with the high cliffs and sea stacks. Not much bird life apart from seagulls (wrong time of year for puffins). However, we did spot a seal swimming round the Head which we watched for a few minutes.

We couldn't understand why there were patches of froth on the fields near the cliffs. It turned out that the wind was so strong that it was blowing foam off the sea hundreds of feet below and bringing it up and over the cliffs onto the fields.

We decided to follow the coast path back to John o' Groats harbour and we are glad we did because as we were walking round the bay at the other side of the Head we spotted more seals. It soon became obvious that there were at least three families of seals in the bay who were bobbing about just off shore watching us watching them watching us….. We sat there for a while looking at them through the binoculars.

Another lazy evening and early to bed.
